Prayers for Buthidaung
When Sharifah, our founder, heard the news of what is happening in Buthidaung — the burning of homes and destruction of property and lives — she knew she wanted to do something to help her community in Houston, Texas process their grief. Almost without exception, as a diaspora, the Rohingya have experienced tremendous trauma and when things happen in real time in Myanmar, they are triggered again or connected to loved ones who are at risk.
She organized community prayers for an end to the violence and suffering of Rohingya people in Buthidaung, Myanmar. Around 150 people came to collectively pray, grieve and comfort each other.
Sometimes the work of being a community organization is holding space for people to grieve. We pray for peace.
